Eating In

As Julatten has no shops, please buy any food supplies before arriving. If travelling from Cairns along the Captain Cook Highway we suggest you stop at the IGA supermarket (open 7 days) situated at the junction of the Port Douglas turn-off. If travelling from Cairns via the Kennedy Highway there are both a Coles (closed Sunday) and IGA supermarket (open 7 days) in Mareeba. Mount Molloy has a small general store.

Just a couple of minutes drive along the Rex Highway from Kingfisher Park, towards Mossman, is Barramundi Gardens where you can buy frozen fillets of the famous Australian fish barramundi, which are farmed here. They also sell frozen green (i.e. raw) prawns in the shell, hydroponically grown lettuces and Asian greens (perfect for a stir fry). Locally made jams, chutneys and honey, free-range eggs, bananas, tomatoes and other vegetables are available according to the growing seasons.

Breakfast trays are available for $8.00pp (cereals, milk, yoghurt, fruit, bread, butter and marmalade). Locally grown ground coffee can be purchased at our shop – coffee plungers are supplied in all units.

Eating Out

1½km along the Rex Highway, towards Mossman, at the Mount Lewis Road turnoff is the Highlander Restaurant. They serve excellent meals (lunch and dinner, Wednesday-Sunday only) plus beer and wines, which you can also takeaway. Light meals such as pizzas are also available for dining in or takeaway.

The Mount Molloy National Hotel, 10km away, serves counter meals ranging from hamburgers, fish and chips, prawns to steaks – all highly recommended.

Just down from the hotel is the Mount Molloy Café and Takeaway whose burgers are reputed to be the largest in Australia.
